About the Toy Museum

Located in a building dating from the 18th century, constituting the Armazém do Mercado, the Toy Museum of Funchal opens the doors to a world full of imagination, fun and a lot of History.

Opened in 2003, this museum was created from the toy collection of architect José Manuel Borges Pereira, to which articles from other private collectors were added. Currently, it has a large collection of about 20,000 pieces from countries such as England, France, Portugal and Germany.

From dolls and toy soldiers to miniature cars, timeless board games or even figures from films such as 'Star Wars', the range of toys present will delight all audiences, regardless of the age.

The Toy Museum exhibition is divided into seven rooms, with different themes: Portuguese toys; miniatures, cars, lorries and other vehicles; military, airplanes, firefighters and motorcycles; Star Wars, Action Man and other collectibles; super heroes and micro machines; dolls; games room and didactic activities.
