Quinta das Cruzes Viewpoint
About the Quinta das Cruzes Viewpoint
With a great historical, natural and landscape value, the Quinta das Cruzes Viewpoint is almost a must in any visit to the municipality of Funchal. It is the ideal place to peacefully enjoy a majestic setting.
This viewpoint, officially inaugurated in 1936, is one of the oldest in the municipality and is located in Quinta das Cruzes, an area that history tells us was inhabited by João Gonçalves Zarco, the navigator who discovered the island and later became the first donee captain of Funchal.
The Quinta das Cruzes Viewpoint is located in the parish of São Pedro where, in the late 15th century, the wealthier classes began to build their residences on the city's slopes. From this spot, at an altitude of 57 metres, visitors can enjoy a privileged view over downtown Funchal with the sea in the background.
In addition, the Quinta das Cruzes Viewpoint stands out for the diversity of its flora, with a large collection of endemic and exotic plants. In this context, we highlight the large centuries-old trees that line the cobblestone paths and the orchid plantation. Everything is perfect for you to enjoy the view and unique atmosphere of the historic Quinta das Cruzes.
