Events in Funchal
Madeira proudly presents a year-round calendar of events covering a wide variety of themes. Funchal is the epicentre of all the action, hosting, in addition to the official commemorations associated with tourist promotion (which include Christmas, New Year's Eve, Carnival, the Flower Festival, the Atlantic Festival, etc.), an array of different events that bring life and glow to the capital of Madeira.
In Funchal, events have different formats and take place in different venues. The Municipal Theatre and the Madeira Congress Centre, for example, are venues that frequently host concerts by prestigious artists. These two venues also host plays, musicals and ballets, diversifying the cultural offer in the city and in the archipelago.
Outdoor spaces are, especially in summer, the usual venues for events in Funchal. In the Santa Catarina Park and the Funchal Municipal Garden, it is common to be able to attend major concerts and even festivals that last for several days. The city squares, mainly Praça do Povo and Praça do Mar, are also the stage for entertainment throughout the year.

The epicentre of Carnival in Madeira, whose images travel the world every year, is unquestionably Funchal. It's an explosion of joy to which it is impossible to remain indifferent. The city truly becomes a sambadrome during the Carnival Parade, which brings even more colour and revelry to this festivity.

Flower Festival
Madeira is a hanging garden in the Atlantic. Therefore, spring is experienced here with special emphasis and gratitude, duly celebrated in the iconic Flower Festival. The decorations and flower carpets, as well as the Flower Parade, are unforgettable elements of this fragrant festival.

Atlantic Festival
Celebrated throughout the month of June, the Atlantic Festival brings dozens of cultural initiatives to the city. Classics at Magnolia
Classics at Magnólia' brings together in a dynamic exhibition the best preserved classic cars of the archipelago of Madeira. In addition to the incredible classic vehicles, you will find extras circulating around the space in period costumes, contributing to a faithful recreation of the atmosphere of the early years of the 20th century.

Wine Festival
One of the most symbolic events in Funchal is, of course, the one that celebrates the incomparable nectar produced in these lands of rare fertility. Held during the harvest season, at the end of August and beginning of September, the Wine Festival toasts to this excellent product with concerts, exhibitions and parades. Cheers!

Christmas and New Year's Eve
Funchal lives this magical season with special emotion. After all, this is 'the celebration' of Madeira! The decorations and lights, as well as the Christmas markets, are major tourist attractions. The celebration culminates on 3 December with the colossal fireworks display, which has already been included in the Guinness World Records.
