Venda Velha

Madeira's history and traditions are a heritage of unrivalled importance to the island. Venda Velha, in Funchal, is a place that proudly keeps that memory, offering visitors a genuine journey through Madeira's culture.

Located at Rua de Santa Maria, this space intends to recreate the typical atmosphere of a social and commercial meeting point of the early 20th century. The 'venda' was always a place for people to meet and socialise. Besides being a 'tasca' (tavern), it was here that messages were left and received, where newspapers were read and a wide variety of regional products were sold.

Over time, these 'vendas' disappeared from the city, so Venda Velha is a space that recalls this Madeiran tradition, adapting it to the present. More than a museological incursion into this historical universe, this space offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy moments of fun and interaction, as well as the best local products.

The old decoration, marked by furniture and objects that date back to that time, gives Venda Velha an inimitable atmosphere. It is the ideal place to enjoy the traditional 'poncha', freshly made with fresh fruit, and, of course, the traditional sugar cane brandy.
