Holy Trinity Church

About the Holy Trinity Church

Located in the heart of the city of Funchal, the Holy Trinity Church was built by Henry Veitch, a British consul who stayed at Madeira in the early 19th century. The Scotsman was very important in maintaining political and social harmony at a time of multiple conflicts. This religious space was built due to the strong presence of British nationals at Madeira during the 19th century.

The Holy Trinity Church, commonly known as the English Church, houses several pieces of great interest. First and foremost, the pipe organ located next to the gospel. On the outside, the plan of the building is characterised by its central, square appearance, with a galilee main façade.

At the neoclassical Holy Trinity Church, Mass is celebrated in English, differentiating it from most religious temples in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Take the opportunity to come to Mass and enjoy the lovely garden around the church.
