About the Achada Viewpoint
Surrounded by an elegant garden, the Achada Viewpoint offers a panoramic view over the city of Funchal, which faces the ocean on a natural amphitheatre. Making the most of an elevated location, it is the ideal place to take a few moments to contemplate the unique scenery of this Atlantic capital.
This observatory can be found on Estrada Dr. João Abel de Freitas, in the parish of Imaculado Coração de Maria. Therefore, the Achada Viewpoint offers a detailed view of the eastern part of Funchal, highlighting the colours of the roofs and the vegetation that covers the entire mountain.
This viewpoint was built in 2009 by the Funchal City Council. At an altitude of 152 metres, the panorama is rather wide and any visit to this site is also enriched by its green surroundings.
Besides the cast-iron and wooden slatted benches, which offer ideal conditions for visitors to enjoy some relaxing moments, the garden area where the Achada Viewpoint is located has several trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants, vines and a lawn area.
