About the Parque de Santa Catarina Viewpoint
With a privileged location overlooking the port of Funchal, the Santa Catarina Park Viewpoint offers a breathtaking view over the city and its incomparable bay.
Located between Avenida do Infante and Avenida Sá Carneiro, this is one of the most appreciated and visited parks in the region, by visitors and locals alike. It has a total area of 36,000 m², where there are flowerbeds with countless botanical species, whether arboreal, shrub or herbaceous. It also has a large lawn, a terrace and a small pond with an island, set up to make it easier for the birds that live here to rest and nest.
The Santa Catarina Park Viewpoint is located in this green area inaugurated in 1966. From here you can see a large section of the southern coastline of the island of Madeira, extending as far as Ponta do Garajau, in Caniço, where the emblematic Cristo Rei monument was built.
In this central park of Funchal, where you can find the Santa Catarina Park Viewpoint, there are also statues evocative of Prince Henry the Navigator and Christopher Columbus, a recreational area for children and the Santa Catarina Chapel.
