The Boaventura trail is certainly one of the most demanding ones in the island of Madeira.
However, its difficulty is compensated by the pleasure of exceeding oneself and, of course, the inspiring beauty of the surrounding Nature.
This trail is 20.4 km long and can be completed in about 4:30 hours.
Considered to be highly difficult, it has a positive level difference of 1800 metres.
The negative level difference is the same.
Made up of challenging climbs and descents - witness to the rugged terrain of this volcanic island - the Boaventura trail runs across 'levadas', paths and valleys amid the indigenous Laurissilva forest.
The surroundings are, of course, always vivid and exuberant.
The trail, with a circular outline, begins and ends in the centre of Boaventura, a parish in the municipality of São Vicente which is considered an authentic sanctuary of Nature, with green valleys crossed by abundant watercourses.
At the end of the Boaventura trail, before the finish, athletes also have the opportunity to run by the sea, offering the last phase of the trail the ideal scenario to regain strength.
