It is considered to be highly difficult, consisting of a combination of technical descent and 'levada'.
As a result, the trail has a total negative level difference of 1621 metres.
In turn, the climbs have a total altitude of 867 metres.
The trail begins at Galhano, in the municipality of Porto Moniz.
The scenery is completely dominated by the vibrant surroundings, in green shades, of the dense Laurissilva forest.
Along the way, athletes cross places of great beauty, such as Levada da Ribeira da Janela, where one must be extra careful.
The Galhano trail also has several tunnels that shorten the distance between the 'levada' bed and the loading chamber of the Hydroelectric Power Plant of Ribeira da Janela.
The adventure ends at Lamaceiros, municipality of Porto Moniz.
