The São Vicente valley, on the north coast of Madeira, has plenty of spectacular trails.
The Pináculo trail is one of those, being one of the most difficult and, at the same time, most rewarding challenges for those who are specialised in this sport.
34.25 km long, this trail presents a true endurance test for athletes.
For this reason, it is considered to be highly difficult, as the whole trail is a continuous climb.
All in all, it registers a positive level difference of almost 1000 metres.
The Pináculo trail begins at Rosário, in the mountains of the municipality of São Vicente.
The lush green of the Laurissilva forest dominates the entire landscape.
The fauna and flora deserve special attention.
Along the route, athletes face quite vertiginous climbs.
However, it should be noted that the most exposed areas of the trail are protected by chains.
The trail ends at Bica da Cana.
In this area, athletes can take the opportunity to regain strength at the Bica da Cana Viewpoint.
At an altitude of around 1580 metres, it offers unparalleled views over the São Vicente valley.
