Ribeira da Tabua

The Ribeira da Tabua trail is one of the most attractive options on the southwest coast of Madeira for lovers of this sport.

Recommended for more experienced athletes, this trail stands out for its peaceful atmosphere and its technical demands.

With a total length of 12.96 km, the Ribeira da Tabua trail is considered to be highly difficult.

The first part of the trail is a quite challenging continuous climb.

It has a total level difference of 1066 metres. After reaching the highest point of the route, runners start a descent with a total level difference of 1069 metres.

This trail has a circular outline, with the same starting and finishing point: the remote and quiet village of Ribeira da Tabua, located in the parish of Tabua.

While climbing to the top of the mountain, athletes have the opportunity to see the gradual transformation of the surrounding flora: sparse trees give way to a lower altitude, shorter vegetation.

It is a unique opportunity to test the limits of one's body, always in contact with Nature and with unique landscape settings, which are difficult to access.
