Welcoming summer with joy

Taking place throughout the month of June, the Atlantic Festival brings to Madeira several cultural initiatives that take place in various parts of the island and also in Porto Santo.

The Atlantic Festival is much more than just the fireworks that fill the skies with colour every Saturday in June. During one month, this festival hosts a set of cultural activities to be held in the archipelago's streets, as the opening and closing pyromusical shows, the International Madeira Fireworks Competition, the Multimedia Shows, the Circus Shows, the Summer Sunsets, the Regional Arts Week and the Funchal Lyons Club Bread Fair are all worthy of mention. Gastronomy | Music

Summer Sunsets

At this time, the weekends are more lively and inviting for outdoor activities. Therefore, over the month of June, from Friday to Sunday, you can enjoy a lively sunset in the garden beside Praça do Povo, where there will be much music, a nice atmosphere, and still, a gastronomy section with traditional Madeiran products.

Sixteenth Century Market

The Sixteenth Century Market recreates the historical period of the discovery of the archipelago and is held annually in Largo da Praça, right in the centre of Machico. This lively market aims to recreate past collective activities from the 16th century, where you can see various products, handicraft, food and beverage section, games, diverse entertainment and various exhibitions.

Pyromusical Shows

The Madeira International Fireworks Contest consists of three pyromusical shows on the first three Saturdays of June which can be seen along the bay of Funchal, during 20 minutes. This edition counts on the participation of pyrotechnic companies from three countries. The objective is to attain the “Atlantic Trophy”, awarded by a jury. On the other hand, the “Madeira Belongs to All Trophy”, is awarded by public vote.

Pyromusical Shows

The music and fireworks combine harmoniously, marking the beginning and end of the Atlantic Festival. The opening pyrotechnic show takes place on the 6th of June, in Machico, next to the Capela de São Roque, in the surrounding maritime area, In turn, the festivities end with two shows: the first takes place on the 28th of June, in Funchal, while the second takes place on the island of Porto Santo, next to the pier in the city of Vila Baleira, on the 29th of June.
