Madeira Island

The north coast of the Island of Madeira is dominated by the green mountains, where the Laurissilva Forest has an amazing vivacity due to the abundance of water. In addition, the presence of volcanic caves, pebble beaches, natural pools, streams and waterfalls, turn this region into a must-visit destination.

Bathed by a clear sea and with mild temperatures all year round, the south coast of Madeira is punctuated by the peculiar beauty of its mountainous landscapes in harmony with the pebble or sand beaches, and by the life of its cities, especially Funchal.

For most visitors, the east coast of Madeira is the gateway to the island: this is where the Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport is located. This framework is made up of multiple attractive bathing areas and places where the richness of biogeodiversity prevails.

Between towering cliffs, seaside towns, breathtaking viewpoints and peaceful bathing areas, the west coast of Madeira has places that are a must-visit for any visitor. Being the sunniest part of the island, it is one of the favourite destinations for beach and nautical sports lovers, such as surfing.

Madeira's Central Mountain Range is located above 1400 metres of altitude, occupying an area of about 8200 hectares. With a strongly rugged profile, some of the highest peaks of Madeira stand out, such as Pico Ruivo (1862 m) or Pico do Areeiro (1818 m), in contrast with the deep valleys.
