About Cais do Sardinha
Far from being a traditional beach, Cais do Sardinha, on the eastern tip of the island of Madeira, is a must for visitors to Ponta de São Lourenço - especially on the warmest days. The beauty of the surrounding scenery and the clarity of the water are unforgettable.
This beach is located at the end of Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço (PR 8), a three-kilometre trail (plus three on the way back). This is the best way to discover this volcanic, mostly basaltic peninsula, which is the easternmost tip of the island of Madeira.
So, after a beautiful walk along the arid scenery of this area, where coastal cliffs play the leading role, Cais do Sardinha is the perfect place for visitors to cool down. Although there are no support services or supervision (which is why bathers are asked to be very careful), this small bathing spot is bathed by translucent waters that invite you to take a dip.
Make the most of your experience at Cais do Sardinha by quietly admiring the environmental heritage of this area, classified as Partial Natural Reserve. In addition, it is worth taking in the wide view over the Atlantic, with the Desertas Islands and Porto Santo on the horizon.
Cais do Sardinha is located at the end of Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço (PR 8). It is, therefore, the perfect place for a refreshing dip after a hike.
