Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church
About the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church
The Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church, commonly known as the Machico Parish Church, is a religious space that was under the control of the donee captains Teixeira family. There is no certainty as to when this church was built, but it is estimated to have been built between the late 15th and early 16th centuries. This religious temple presents an extremely special curiosity: the church has three inner chapels: St. John the Baptist Chapel, the Reis Magos Chapel and the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.
The Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church underwent several construction works between the 17th and 18th centuries until it reached its current layout. This religious space has many late-Gothic and Manueline features: an axial door with a broken arch, five archivolts and white marble columns. The interior contains two extremely interesting primitive paintings: the 'Holy Trinity' and 'Pentecost', dating from the middle of the 16th century.
It should be noted that the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Church is classified as a Monument of Public Interest.
