Santa Isabel Chapel
About the Santa Isabel Chapel
Located at Rua Irmã Wilson, in the centre of Santa Cruz, the Santa Isabel Chapel was commissioned by merchant André Gonçalves in 1562, and completed a few years later. Unfortunately, about a century later the church was in ruins. Its reconstruction was funded by the building to which it is attached: the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Santa Cruz.
Despite its simple architecture, the Santa Isabel Chapel has a Gothic portal and some highly valuable pieces inside. The beautiful high altar in gilded woodwork is certainly worth contemplating.
Don't forget to admire the small Santa Isabel Chapel when visiting Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Santa Cruz.
