The municipality of Porto Moniz is home to a number of places with excellent conditions for contemplating the unique landscapes of the north coast of the island of Madeira. One of these must-see places is the Teleférico das Achadas da Cruz viewpoint, with its impressive view over Calhau das Achadas.
Located at the top of a large rocky escarpment, this viewpoint offers visitors the opportunity to contemplate, from an overlooking view, the 'fajã' that is bathed by the clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean at the bottom of the slope. In the landscape, the peculiar (and very photogenic) design of the agricultural land also stands out.
The cable car that gives its name to the viewpoint was created to facilitate the transportation of food, as well as farmers' access to this area known for its high fertility. However, this means of connection to the beach has also become an important tourist attraction.
The scenery is thus complemented by the cable car that slides down the steep downhill of the escarpment until it reaches the peaceful Fajã da Quebrada Nova. Finally, the slopes and the sea, in the background, provide the framework of the Teleférico das Achadas da Cruz viewpoint with a vivid and unforgettable atmosphere.
The Teleférico das Achadas da Cruz viewpoint gives visitors the chance to peacefully contemplate Calhau das Achadas, where the rocky escarpment shelters a peaceful 'fajã'.
