Cova da Roda Viewpoint

About the Cova da Roda Viewpoint

Located in the municipality of Santana, the Cova da Roda viewpoint hides a stunning landscape, perfect for those who want to enjoy the peacefulness that only Nature can offer.

Although the accesses to this place are not the easiest, the effort is rewarded by the wide panorama that opens up on arrival. To reach the viewpoint, it is then necessary to walk along the cobblestone pavement belonging to one of the first roads that provided an important link between Funchal, on the south coast of the island of Madeira, and Santana, on the north coast.

At the Cova da Roda viewpoint, visitors have the opportunity to calmly contemplate the irregular design of the north coast of Madeira. In this vast landscape, the Penha d'Águia, an imposing geological formation with an altitude of around 600 metres, is an unavoidable highlight which sets the dividing line between the municipality of Santana and that of Machico.

It is also possible to see Ponta de São Lourenço, the rocky peninsula situated at the eastern end of the island of Madeira. All this, of course, with the crystal-clear depth of the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop. Come and discover this unique landscape!
