About the Empenas Viewpoint
Located in the imposing Santana Mountains, the Empenas viewpoint provides visitors with an ample view over the Madeiran mountains, with the Atlantic Ocean in the background. It is an ideal place to spend some quiet moments contemplating the Nature that marks the archipelago's landscapes.
This viewpoint can be accessed from the road leading to Achada do Teixeira, just after passing through Picarouto. Situated on the forks of the Santana Mountains, from this high point you can see a substantial part of the east coast, from the parish of São Jorge, a peaceful village in the municipality of Santana, to Ponta de São Lourenço, which is the easternmost point of the island of Madeira.
On clear days, the Empenas viewpoint also allows you to see the island of Porto Santo to the northeast. It is therefore the ideal place to look out over the Madeiran landscapes, marked by the green tones of the mountains and the crystal-clear blue tones of the sea. The road leading to this viewpoint is open every day between seven in the morning and nine at night.
