About the Picarouto Viewpoint
The Pico das Pedras Forest Park in the municipality of Santana, is known for its vibrant flora, consisting mainly of the natural species of the Laurissilva Forest and several specimens of some exotic species. It is within this special framework that the Picarouto viewpoint can be found.
Located on the Estrada Regional 218, which connects the city of Santana to the Achada do Teixeira plateau, this natural viewpoint has a wide panoramic view that stretches between São Jorge and Ponta de São Lourenço, the eastern end of the island. The imposing presence of the Penha d'Águia, an iconic geological formation with an altitude of around 600 metres that serves as a divisional mark between the municipality of Santana and Machico, stands out in this scenery.
On the opposite side, visitors to the Picarouto viewpoint can also take the opportunity to view the Central Mountain Massif, which is part of the Network of Natural Monuments of the Autonomous Region of Madeira. Finally, it should be noted that the road leading to this place, whose scenery is very ample, is open every day between seven in the morning and nine at night.
