Ribeiro Frio Viewpoint

Located on the Estrada Regional 103, the Ribeiro Frio viewpoint offers visitors a breathtaking panoramic view over the green and imposing mountains characteristic of the north coast of the island of Madeira.

Integrated in the parish of São Roque do Faial, municipality of Santana, this viewpoint enjoys a privileged view over the Ribeiro Frio site, where nature's splendour reigns supreme. In this area, several endemic species of the indigenous Laurissilva Forest can be found, such as the laurel tree (Laurus novocanariensis), the Lily-of-the-Valley Tree (Clethra arbórea), the Madeira Laurel (Ocotea foetens) or the Madeira Indica (Persea indica), for example.

Fog is quite frequent in this area, which give this landscape an even more enigmatic aura at such times. A visit to this viewpoint is the ideal opportunity to enjoy some of the hiking trails that begin here, such as PR 10 Levada do Furado or PR 11 Vereda dos Balcões. Along these trails you may come across animals such as the firecrest (Regulus madeirensis), the chaffinch (Fringila coelebs madeirensis) or, more rarely, the Madeira pigeon (Columba trocaz).

The vibrant scenery of the Ribeiro Frio viewpoint is therefore a great starting point to discover the green slopes of the north coast.
