About Boaventura
It was 1836 when the decision was taken to render the parish of Boaventura autonomous from Ponta Delgada. However, the name 'Boaventura' has been kept since the 16th century and its origin is not known for certain.
Belonging to the municipality of São Vicente, on the north coast of the island of Madeira, this small and peaceful parish is situated in mountainous green surroundings. It is, in fact, considered a true natural sanctuary, where the beauty of the valleys torn by multiple water courses turns this space into a small isolated oasis. If you're looking for a predominantly quiet place, you've found it.
All along the parish of Boaventura, one can find several 'levadas' originating in the Ribeira dos Moinhos. Among them are Achada Grande, Levada Grande, which extends its irrigation to Ponta Delgada, Faias, Achada dos Alves e Pastel, and Achada or Serrão. Here, it is also possible to admire basaltic structures with curious shapes, such as the 'chimney' or the 'Carapita'.
Finally, don't miss the breathtaking views from the viewpoints scattered around these hills. Connect with the best of Nature.
