About the Boca da Corrida Viewpoint
The municipality of Câmara de Lobos, on Madeira's south coast, is home to several points of interest, such as the Boca da Corrida viewpoint, which attracts visitors and locals alike, due to its tranquillity and communion with Nature. It is the ideal place for a leisurely stroll, with time for contemplation.
Since it is located at an altitude exceeding 1,000 metres, the landscape visible from this place surrounded, by vegetation, is admirable (and very photogenic). In this vast panorama, our eyes are drawn to the Curral das Freiras valley. This town, surrounded by mountain peaks, was named after the nuns of the Santa Clara Convent who found refuge here when pirates attacked Funchal in the 16th century.
The Boca da Corrida viewpoint also allows you to see Eira do Serrado and the characteristic grandeur of Madeira's central massif. Since it is located in the parish of Jardim da Serra, in the upper part of Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, this natural observatory is also the starting point for the historic Caminho Real da Encumeada (PR 12) route.
