About the Ilhéu Gardens
The municipality of Câmara de Lobos has several places where Nature reveals itself with particular vivacity. This is the case of the Ilhéu Gardens, a unique space between land and sea, which should be included in the itinerary of those who visit this municipality on Madeira's south coast.
Located on top of a cliff overlooking the sea, commonly known as Ilhéu, these gardens offer a vibrant atmosphere with stunning highlights. From the Ilhéu Gardens, you can contemplate the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean and enjoy a clear view over the houses of the city of Câmara de Lobos and the peninsula of Cabo Girão, the highest in Europe, at an altitude of 580 m.
The Câmara de Lobos Islet, where we find this natural observatory, was once Madeira’s most densely populated area. It was the fishermen's quarter of this town known for its centuries-old fishing tradition — still visible today, in fact, in the town's famous bay.
After undergoing redevelopment, the area is now an ideal place to enjoy a pleasant walk, with a privileged view over the region.
