Santa Cecília Parish Church

About Santa Cecília Parish Church

Inaugurated in 2011, the Santa Cecília Parish Church is one of the most modern temples on the island of Madeira. Located in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos, this religious space replaced the former seat of the parish of Santa Cecília: the Convent of São Bernardino. This parish was created on 24 November 1960 by decree of the then Bishop of Funchal: D. David Sousa.

Designed by architect Luís Jorge Santos, the Santa Cecília Parish Church features a modern architecture in the shape of a boat. This type of architecture symbolises the boat of the apostle Saint Peter. We highlight the straight, minimalist lines, as well as a bell tower that is separate from the body of the church. The inside, with its single nave, stands out for its depiction of various images, especially that of Christ Pantocrator.

Don't miss the modern Santa Cecília Parish Church and the magnificent Câmara de Lobos municipality. If possible, visit it during Christmas time, when the traditional labour masses are celebrated. You'll certainly feel overwhelmed by the unique atmosphere of this time of year, favourable to socialising and sharing moments.
