Porto Santo Promenade
About the Porto Santo Promenade
Walking along the Porto Santo Promenade gives you the opportunity to enjoy a stroll along the dunes, with the emerald shades of the Atlantic as a backdrop. Every moment is an invitation to enjoy the landscape and smell the sea air that characterises the island.
The tour starts near the Padrão dos Descobrimentos on Alameda do Infante. This monument, a work by António Aragão that pays tribute to the Portuguese maritime expansion, can be found next to the old pier at Vila Baleira. Also known as 'Pau de Sabão' (soap stick) for its quadrangular shape, it was inaugurated on 28 August 1960 and stands imposingly, with each of its faces featuring reliefs alluding to the historical era of Infante D. Henrique.
From here, the Porto Santo Promenade stretches for more than 300 metres along the seafront, along the area adjacent to the dunes. Along the way, there are several benches, some of them under the shade of the palm trees along the path, where you can stop to rest and enjoy the landscape.
As an alternative to walking, you can always do the route by bike, rollerblading or skateboarding, for example. One way or another, the important thing is to enjoy this unique space.
